If there is something I want to do, or to go somewhere, I do it.
I am happy to go alone, like going on holidays, day trips, or learning something new, for example. Although I have had the odd holiday with a friend and more recently a holiday with my mum, I am a person who enjoys going alone, because I just find it freeing.
Life it too short and I know this personally, through people I have known, or even closer; family members that are no longer here.
My advice to people, that I have also taken on board myself for many years is, to go and do what you want to do. Don’t wait to do it with someone, instead just get out there and do it. It is a great feeling to take yourself to another place. There is no chance to be bored on holidays for example, if you plan ahead to the area you are visiting. Although sometimes, my confidence can get in the way, I am not long before I will do it and I have been reminded by a work friend who knows I can be a nervous traveller, that she admires me going on holidays alone, to new places, because she is not confident to walk around at a nearby town.
Many of my holidays have been on coaches and I find I am not always the only one who travels alone. Sometimes they might be on the seat next to me, on the coach and a conversation starts. This could also continue in the hotel, like having breakfast with them before departing your ways, to enjoy the day.
I learnt recently from a friend I have known for years and who goes on lots of trips and holidays that at one time she was fearful of doing it. She took the first step with the support of a centre she once attended and although scary for her, she enjoyed it. She knew she had to keep pushing herself after that and now she goes to places without thinking. I would have never thought at one time, she was once like this. It was lovely to hear her story.
I find when I travel alone, that it gives me confidence, improves my self-esteem, as well as the break I may need.
What ever your goal may be, just do it and enjoy. Wait for no one, because life is too short.
So how will I go for it this year?
I plan to:
- go on two weekend holidays, to somewhere I have not been to before.
- continue with my home study lessons
- continue with crochet
- I plan to take driving lessons later in the year
What do you plan to do, for 2017?
