Today, my anxiety is showing. It started off small, but then while dealing with something else, it was worse.  What I was dealing with today was something simple that I had to be assertive with. Being assertive was what brought the anxiety out more. This surprised me, because usually when I take something back to a shop that I am not happy with, I usually manage. But then it has been some years in taking something back to a shop and I don’t think I would have had the anxiety then. I don’t think it would have shown to the person serving me, but I felt it.
I am now calming myself down, having lunch and a pot of tea. Maybe when I have finished this pot of tea, my anxiety will gone, or hardly there.

    I recall, years ago, I had an unexpected panic attack in the produce aisle of the store. No idea why and has not happened again. But I can relate to what you sometimes experience.

    I recently read in, “You Forever” by T. Lobsang Rampa, about a wonderful ‘calming’ technique. It is actually ‘common sense’ and I have known it for YEARS, but until I read it the way he wrote it, it did not make much sense to me.

    And that technique simply is to ‘consciously slow your breathing’. When your breathing is ‘calm’, You become ‘calm’. You have too! It is a natural reaction! I found that to be very powerful and felt moved to share with you.

    1. Yes, it is certainly slow breathing to stop the anxiety. We just need reminders like this, that you share and what Letitgocoach mentioned.
      I have certainly got this. I have felt fine the last couple of hours now, with no anxiety at all. 🙂 xx

  2. I hope the anxiety has worked its way back down. I agree with the above comments. Taking something back to a shop and being assertive about it can certainly peak anxiety when you’re feeling rocky already, but you can overcome it, you can manage it. You’ve got this, Liz. xx

  3. I have been reading a lot of your posts, since you commented on my blog, and girl, we have so much in common! I probably won’t write about it on my current blog, for the same reason you don’t want this blog to focus on your hearing loss, but I struggled with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc. for years (over a decade). I am also a sexual assault survivor (very recently, if the truth be told). And I also found CBT to be indispensible in my recovery. I’ve had a lot more success dealing with my issues holistically and through therapy (and yoga, which is a HUGE part of my journey) than with medication, which just didn’t work so well for me.

    Right now, anxiety and the effects of everything that happened to me are kind of funny tendencies that I have. Personality quirks that aren’t entirely unlikable. But it’s not at the point where I consider it to be debilitating or an “illness” anymore.

  4. Hi Liz, I know this is a very old post. I have a lot of old posts in my inbox, which I am slowly over time going through. Anxiety sucks. Its truly horrible. I do think tea helps, it always helps me. xo

      I totally agree with the tea. I find it helpful too. I really focus on the taste of my drink and how it warms me.
      When out and about, water helps me too. Just taking sips, if needed.
