Elf On The Shelf

I am behind the times when it comes to Elf On The Shelf. In the UK, I think, or thought Elf On The Shelf had only been out the last two years. This year, being more popular. But tonight, from a work colleague talking about it, Elf On The Shelf may have been out in the UK longer than I thought.

So last year, although I had seen them around, I wasn’t bothered.
This year, it’s starting to grow on me. I may end up with one myself, before the week is out.

At work, I am not the only one who was curious about Elf On The Shelf, as someone asked me what it was all about a few weeks back. I said to her, that I am same as you. I don’t know.
A couple of  weeks ago, she got a large elf for her cleaning trolley.

On an area I clean, a small red elf is in the kitchen and I am watching its adventures. I have been having a laugh this past week. It started off having some days swinging on the blind cord, then it was drunk over the weekend, as it was passed out with an empty mini vodka bottle, in some snow.
The next day it had its head over a bowl.
The day after it felt better and it was on top of a pig ornament, putting some money in it.
Today, its busy wrapping, but seems to have got itself wrapped up. I can’t wait to see what it is up to tomorrow.

Is anyone else having fun with Elf On The Shelf?

Below, is a couple of blog links to give you ideas for what your elf can get up to.

  1. Lol Liz. This made me smile. I am in the U.K. too but don’t know what Elf on the Shelf is. Though I do know what Elf and Safety is lol

    1. Lol There are going to be quite a few of us then that do not know what it is. Yes, I know what Elf and Safety is too.

The Elf on the Shelf, I have read up on and I agree with some of the parents that have blogged, that they don’t like some of the rules that come with it and so choose their own, which I think is good. Like one rule that is not liked by parents, that children cannot touch the elf, otherwise magic of Christmas is gone. It’s a horrible rule I agree.
If I get into this, my elf won’t come with a book as I will only get those that are a couple of pounds, or three. I won’t pay more than that for the elf I have seen.

The elf you are supposed to move about each night, or day, when children not looking or about, so he or she, if you have the female elf, is doing something.

I am liking the story that’s going on at work, that I shared in the post and us cleaners who some of us did not know what it is about are having fun and getting into. 🙂

  2. Hahah sounds like that elf at your workplace is having a little too much fun this Christmas 😉
I thought it was all fuss for nothing, just some fad. But I’ve seen one or two people do this for a couple of years now on Facebook, putting this elf thing in different positions and sharing photos. Actually looks like fun to see what mischief they can get up to! xx

  3. Nice post. Never heard of the elf thing. Can’t say I can get into it….but sounds like you are going to have a wonderful blast when you get your elf.

For some time now, I will place the kids stuffed animals in various places and of different activities when the household kids are asleep. They have fun in the morning, imagining what happened over night with their ‘friends’.

    1. Enjoy further posts aired since this one Then, of what the elves get up to. It won’t be a daily thing here, but you will hear more. What you have done with the kids toys will be just as fun as the elves. I bet you and the kids had fun, wondering what they been up to. I am certainly having a blast with the elves, more than I thought I would. 🙂

      2. You are very welcome! Having fun in life is extremely important and using our imagination is powerful!!! I look forward to more fun posts with your new friends.

Question: Do the Elfs stay all year long? Or only visit/be visible at the Holidays?

      3. My imagination is something I like to use, but not something I have used much of, until the elves came.

The elves are planning on staying. So I wonder what may happen?

      4. You are very special and a grand teacher. Thank you and keep using that imagination. It is a very powerful tool.

Maybe you can find or make non-Christmas clothes for them when we are not of the season. Or not…. 🙂

      5. Yes, it would certainly be a good idea Ren, bringing more of my creative side out, by maybe making clothes for them. It would be something new for me to try too, as in the regards of making clothes. X
